Announcement of the Workshop

A workshop for tattooists and PMU practitioners has been scheduled during the WCTP2025 congress in Rome. The workshop will be streamed and can be attended online or in person on site. It will be divided in two sessions one on Thursday evening and one Friday morning.

What to expect from the tattoo / PMU artist workshop

  • Experts in the field will share their knowledge and answer FAQs
  • Active contribution and interaction with the audience
  • Scientific and experience-based knowledge instead of sometimes doubtful information shared
    on social media
  • Continuing education and practical tips and tricks for and by artists
In addition to practical knowledge transfer for artists, you can also attend the congress where we will present other exciting topics at a scientific level - including tattoo complications, advanced knowledge on the composition of inks, the testing of ink ingredients, and developments after implementation of REACH regulations.

DAY 1 – SKIN and CLIENT SELECTION

(Thursday afternoon, the 8th of May, 2024)

Session 1

Should I tattoo this client?

This presentation will help you to decide if your client can get a tattoo. Y/N/Why? Special situations and precautions will be addressed,

  • client selection (including different skin conditions)
  • contraindications (other diseases and medication)
  • PMU related contraindications: What about botox and fillers?

"Save a life; suspected elements on the skin"
Can it be a melanoma?

 

This presentation will help you to recognize abnormal moles and eventually even to detect skin cancer

 

Session 2

Questions & Answers with cases from participants and tattoo-clinics

Artists can share cases in the room and will be asked for submissions beforehand. A round table of experts will discuss these with you and prepare additional cases. If you have a question or specific situation/case you would like us to address at the workshop, you may send it to us.

DAY 2 – BEAUTY AND SAFETY

(Friday morning, the 9th of May, 2024)

Session 1

Cosmetic and Medical tattoos

This session will address the use of PMU to enhance and/or restore appearance and what can go wrong. Two practitioners will share their experience regarding tattooing of scars and medical tattooing. We believe that these topics are interesting for both tattoo & PMU artists. Including talks on:

  • Photoprotection/photodegradation: the influence of sunlight on PMU and tattoos
  • Tattooing of scars: when, where and how?
  • Difficult cases and cosmetic catastrophes

 

Session 2

How to reduce the risks and improve the results of Tattooing and PMU

This session will deal with hygiene, how to avoid infections and how to optimize wound healing. Including talks on:

  • “the Swedish model: collaboration between practitioners and health inspectors”
  • Tattooing - Safe and hygienic practice ’ Where are we today?’
  • Aftercare
  • Allergy: “Do you understand the label on the ink bottle?”
  • Panel discussions: The value of hygiene courses and CEN requirements
